April 2019 Maternal Health Awareness Training


April 19-21 2019

The Maternal Health Awareness Training (MHA) is a grassroots movement developed to improve maternal wellness within our communities. To educate and empower the everyday person and community healers with fundamental knowledge about normal health perimeters.

The MHA Training empowers the community to secure wellness by teaching basic skills that can help prevent maternal and infant injury and loss. This training is for all wombmen, to empower her with the fundamental knowledge of her normal body processes and help her to self-assess for her wellness.

The MHA training is for all parents to aid in the care of their families. It is for all Allied Birth Workers such as Labor Assistants (Doulas), Lactation Professionals, Childbirth Educators and the likes. These community service workers provide intermittent care for pregnant and postpartum wombman and babies.

This training includes a Wellness Tool Kit containing a Blood Pressure Cuff, Urine Sticks, Thermometer and a Glucose Meter, to help detect problems.

The Maternal Health Awareness training includes a Wellness Tool Kit composed of a Sphygmomanometer (Blood Pressure Cuff), Urine Sticks, Thermometer and a Glucometer to  help identify signs of Hypertension, Diabetes, Infection and other dis-eases that currently plague our communities.

Day One April 19th 9am - 4pm: Reproductive Justice 101 Hosted by SisterSong

Learn how to view any social justice issue through an RJ lens addressing intersecting oppression in people’s lives, how to organize effectively, and more.

Day Two April 20th 9am - 4pm: Maternal Health Awareness

Sekesa Berry of Love 'N' Touch, LLC is a Traditional Midwife and Birth Justice Activist.

Learn about normal body processes and how to assess for wellness via specific body systems.

Learn to identify abnormal and know when to seek medical or alternative care. 

Hands-on Training with Blood Pressure Monitor and Thermometer.

Day 3 April 21st 9am - 4pm: MHA & Postpartum

Hands-on training with Glucometer and Urinalysis

Learn to warning signs that pose threats to both maternal and infant wellness.

Learn traditional practices for postpartum care such as, Yoni Steaming, Sitz Bathing, Womb Binding and Womb Massage.
